Kenneth Shiffer was convicted of second degree murder in 1988 and sentenced to life in prison. On November 23, 2010, Shiffer was released from prison after serving 23 years. Shiffer was convicted of the 1987 beating death of a man in a hotel. Shiffer was identified by a woman as the man who walked away from that hotel the night of the murder carrying a club and wearing a black Members Only jacket. Police found a bloody jacket meeting that description in Shiffer’s closet. Shiffer maintained his innocence throughout his trial and appeals. Recent DNA testing showed that the blood on the jacket did not come from the victim and the court ordered a new trial. The witnesses from the original trial are now deceased. Shiffer pled no contest to a lesser murder charge in order to be released from prison instead of going through a new trial. For more details click here.
