This video, via the Houston Chronicle, shows the personal and professional challenges that exonerees face after their release from prison.
As we have seen before, adjusting to society after wrongful imprisonment can be extremely difficult. These stories demonstrate how hard it can be to get back on one’s feet. Exonerees can be declared innocent without being officially pardoned, which means that the crime still appears on their record. Many are therefore unable to get jobs, and the fight for compensation has been unfruitful for many of these men due to red tape and procedural issues.
